Introducing Kara Williams, President 2017-18

Society members installed their new president (2017-18) Kara Williams at its AGM on 18 May 2017. The meeting was held at the Vale Resort in Hensol with over 70 fellow members and invited guests in attendance.

L-R: Anne Smith, Kara Williams, Harri Lloyd Davies
Kara is the audit partner of Newport based chartered accountancy firm, Ellis Lloyd Jones. Having trained as an auditor and having continued with the specialism since qualifying over ten years ago, Kara heads up the audit and accounts department undertaking audit work and other work similar to audit, such as SRA Accountant’s reports.

Kara has an extensive and varied portfolio and, although an auditor at heart, is an expert in the preparation of financial statements for limited companies, partnerships, charities and not for profit organisations. Her experience of different businesses over the years has furnished her with the perfect background for providing her clients with good quality and relevant business advice.

Kara previously sat on the ICAEW Practice Committee, which deals with topical issues affecting members in practice in the UK and all over the world. She is also a trustee of various charities.

Kara has two young children, which obviously doesn’t lend much time for a life or adequate sleep, but she manages to find time around the kids and work for open water swimming, having swam the English Channel in 2013. She also enjoys ‘normal’ swimming, cycling and jogging (running would be too strong a word) and has taken part in various half marathons. Wine is also a necessary favourite!

Kara becomes only the fifth “madam” president in the history of the South Wales Society of Chartered Accountants and follows an impressive list of leading [female] professionals in South Wales including:

  • Carol Warburton, Director at KTSOwensThomas accountancy firm with offices across South Wales
  • Katy Chamberlain, Chief Executive of Business in Focus
  • Jayne Worsey, Head of Finance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
  • Jane Clayton, NED of various financial organisations, currently practising as a sole practitioner

Kara will be supported in her role as President by Harri Lloyd Davies, Deputy President and audit partner of Bevan & Buckland in Swansea and Anne Smith, Vice President and tax partner of Watts Gregory in Cardiff.
