Oxford Citizens Advice needs your help

September 2017: Life is complex and many of us often don’t know where to turn. The Citizens Advice (CA) service provides free, confidential and impartial advice to people to help solve their problems. Would you like to make a difference as an accountant?

For 75 years it has been one of the most recognised brands on the high street and is seen by the public as highly trustworthy and informative. Of course, like all charitable institutions, CA is facing unprecedented challenges with increased demand for help on the problems people face.

For many years practitioners in the Oxford area have been supporting those seeking professional financial advice from the Citizens Advice in St Aldates’. ICAEW Thames Valley has a rota of local practitioners who offer their professional advice to any CA clients needing help with any financial related problems they may have.

How it works

The Oxford CA schedules appointments once a fortnight. On the Monday of the week the volunteer is due to attend on the rota, and Oxford CA will email and provide details of any appointments that are booked for the Wednesday evening or notify if there are none, which may be the case. Oxford CA asks that the volunteer confirms their attendance and advises, if for any reason, they are no longer available that evening.

Can you help?

There are now only four volunteers remaining on the rota with one moving jobs to another area early next year. If you can spare an hour every other Wednesday evening (currently no more than every other month) and would like to join the Oxford CA rota or need more information, please email Sue Pye.
