ICAEW, a world leader in the finance and accountancy profession, has appointed Dr Martin Manuzi as its regional director for Europe. He will be responsible for increasing ICAEW's presence and profile in the region, building on the strong relationships ICAEW already has with the EU institutions, stakeholders and the profession across Europe.
Martin's appointment is a key step in the ICAEW's strategy to become a global organisation, headquartered in the UK. By increasing its activity and physical presence in strategically significant markets across the world, ICAEW is building reputation and providing premium qualifications and member services. ICAEW has more than 134,000 members in over 160 countries. More than 4,000 members are based in Europe, outside of the UK.
Commenting on his appointment, Martin Manuzi said:
"I'm very excited at the opportunity to increase ICAEW's activity across Europe. The establishment of the Region will significantly enhance our ability to offer access to the portfolio of ICAEW qualifications and capacity building services while also facilitating our work on technical and regulatory issues in partnership with professional institutes across Europe. We will also enhance our engagement with EU policy makers, extend our thought leadership activities and responses to the many important EU consultations and proposals which impact directly on the profession."
The appointment of Martin as an international regional director follows the appointment of Mark Billington as regional director in South East Asia and Amanda Line as regional director in the Middle East last year.
Michael Izza, ICAEW Chief Executive, said:
"Martin has played a key role in the ICAEW's work in Brussels over the past decade, ensuring our organisation's voice has been heard in matters relating to the profession and our expertise has been shared with relevant EU institutions. He has also been a driver in establishing relationships with key accountancy profession stakeholders and bodies across Europe, giving him a very strong base on which to further build and enhance ICAEW's presence and engagement in the region."
Martin joined ICAEW in 1998 and has in recent years been Head of European Affairs, based in Brussels. He represents ICAEW on the Qualification and Market Access Working Party of the Federation of European Accountants, FEE (Fédération des Experts Comptable Européens) and was the main author of the 2008 FEE study on international accounting networks and associations, the most extensive study to date in this area. Martin acts as the technical advisor to the UK Member of FEE Council on behalf of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB).
Born and educated in the UK, Martin has a honours degree in economic and social history and Italian, and a PhD on state intervention and economic policy. He has also worked as a lecturer at the Anglia Polytechnic University and University College, London.
