ICAEW Charity Awards 2011 has recognised charities which have demonstrated excellence and innovation in online financial reporting whilst also celebrating the exceptional contribution of chartered accountants who volunteer for charities and community projects across the UK.
The ceremony also included the ICAEW Foundation and CABA Global Inspiration Awards, which recognises students training to become ICAEW Chartered Accountants worldwide who have demonstrated outstanding or exceptional qualities in overcoming adversity.
Opening the award ceremony, ICAEW Chief Executive Michael Izza said:
"The charity and not for profit sectors are an integral part of the accountancy profession – and while just a small percentage of our members work in this area full time, we know a large proportion of our members support them as volunteers. It’s not at all uncommon for accountants to find their skills in great demand – particularly among charities looking for trustees and small community groups looking for treasurers."
Presenting the Charities Online Financial Reporting and Accounts Awards (COFRA), Graham Ward CBE Chairman of the Judges, said:
"In an uncertain economic time when many charities are being squeezed, and a time of growing public accountability, these awards are more important than ever. How charities present themselves is critical in terms of people’s willingness to provide time and resources. The Annual Reports are there to encapsulate not just that the charity is being run well but that it has a clear vision and mission."

The Everybody Counts awards, recognised the outstanding voluntary work of chartered accountants in the voluntary sector. There were four categories: members in business; members in practice; younger members and retired members.
Clive Parritt, ICAEW President, who presented the awards to the Everybody Counts winners, said:
These awards are not just about celebrating success, they are about providing inspiration. Each of the winners has inspired other people by example, showing how dedication and focus can make a difference to peoples’ lives. And most of these people would not have come forward themselves – the incentive is a donation going towards their charity."
