WYSCA bursary scheme awards

Two students from the University of Bradford School of Management have received awards for their achievements.

Siu Tung Leung received a cheque for £200 WYSCA as the top student on the first year of the BSc Accounting and Finance Degree course at Bradford University School of Management from Tim Parr, who was WYSCA President in 2010-11.

In addition to the WYSCA award, Tim, Tax Partner at Baker Tilly, presented Monica Keshav, the top student in the second year of the course, with a cheque for £250 from his firm. Monica also won second place in the WYSCA best student awards last year under the previous awards system.

Tim commented: “Congratulations are due to all the students for their excellent results and we wish them well in their future careers. They have chosen wisely, as the ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification opens the door to a huge range of exciting career opportunities in this country and around the world. The training produces chartered accountants, auditors and business advisers who are valued in all sectors, from practice to commerce, industry and the public sector.

“The bursaries reflect the desire of WYSCA to offer a little more encouragement and support to our ‘next generation’ and while the monetary value is modest, being a WYSCA bursary recipient is a useful addition to the students’ CVs which will hopefully enhance their career prospects and go a little way towards easing the way for our business leaders of the future.”

Dr Damian Ward, Associate Dean of the School of Management, said "I am delighted that our students have received this recognition. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to qualify as a chartered accountant and it is a great incentive to have the support of a firm like Baker Tilly as a local employer and of the profession, as represented by WYSCA."
