Ted Fergusson –President of the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants – presented a cheque for £2,100 to National Director of HRUK, Barbara Harpham, at the charity’s offices at Joseph’s Well in Leeds. The money was raised at the Society’s Annual Dinner held in October where guests dug deep to raise funds to help the charity continue its pioneering work in the fight against heart disease.
Ted says: “The dinner is always an excellent evening to socialise and network, but we do like to ‘put something back’. Our guests never disappoint and they showed that their hearts were definitely in the right place.
“Over the years, this particular event has raised very substantial amounts for charity – and this year’s recipient, Heart Research UK, is an organisation to which I and my family owe a huge debt of gratitude. I would like to thank everyone who attended the Dinner for donating so generously.”
Ted has first-hand experience of the importance and need for heart research. His daughter, Hannah, now aged 16, had heart problems and had major corrective heart surgery when she was only 5 weeks old.
Ted says: “Hannah is now a very robust teenager living a happy and healthy life thanks to the vital work of HRUK. She’s now a keen fundraiser herself, and does regular events with her mum and grandma so that others can benefit from the type of research that has allowed her to live a normal life as possible.”
Barbara Harpham, National Director of Heart Research UK, says: “We’ve known Ted and his family for many years, and it’s just fantastic that they keep on finding new ways to raise funds for us. A huge thanks goes to each and every one of the guests at the dinner who gave so generously – their cheque certainly made my heart race faster.”
