Stanley Grosvenor, who lives in Nunthorpe, has received an ‘MA with merit’ from Birmingham University. He received his certificate at an Awards ceremony at the University in December 2011.
Seventy-three year old Stan, a retired member, served his Articles in Middlesbrough at Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co, at that time the largest accountancy firm in the world. Moving out of the profession he had spells with Lucas Industries in Birmingham and steel and ship repair industries in the North West before returning to Teesside as the first finance director of Cleveland Transit Ltd following public transport deregulation. This was followed by 11 years as finance director of a Teesside engineering company before retiring in 1999.
Following an unplanned visit to Danzig Alley CWGC war cemetery on the Somme in the mid nineteen eighties, he was so affected by the experience that he determined to study that 1916 battle upon his return home. Thus began an interest in the Great War that developed over the years culminating in a decision to take up formal study of the subject.
