ICAEW is working with Chatham House on the future of financial centres in China and the accountancy profession’s role in their development.
China is growing fast, and to meet demand and maintain that growth in the next decade it will need hundreds of thousands of qualified finance professionals. finance skills to keep driving that growth. Part of the government’s strategy is the development of a strong Chinese accountancy profession and the growth of financial centres like Shanghai and Shenzhen.
As a global leader of the accountancy profession, ICAEW is driving new research on how China can achieve its aims. Through our ACA qualification and our dialogue with government, we are already committed to help build China’s accountancy profession. This new research project with the Chatham House Institute of International Affairs will inform policy making to help develop China’s financial centres.
In the 19th century, ICAEW’s founders shaped the City of London as a financial centre. In the 21st century, we want to share our experience and expertise with China’s policy makers and financiers. Working with partners in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei, a major report will examine how best to develop financial centres across Greater China, drawing together knowledge from academia, business, finance and government.
The research kicked off at workshops in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei in June.
