One Moorgate Place

History

ICAEW’s headquarters building Chartered Accountants' Hall (located at One Moorgate Place) was built in 1890 to the design of the eminent Victorian architect, Sir John Belcher RA.

As our membership and activities have grown the building has been extended. Once in the 1930s in a similar architectural style and again in the 1960s to a more modern design, by the architect Sir William Whitfield.

The Grade II listed building attracts the attention of architectural students and historians and many of the original features have been retained and restored. The exterior of the building features a carved stone frieze by Hamo Thorneycroft and the interior decoration includes works of art by Eduardo Paolozzi, Gerald Benney and John Piper.
