The ICAEW North West region represents over 10,500 chartered accountants working at the heart of business both in the professional services sector, in industry and in the public/not for profit sectors. Our aim is to raise the profile of the ICAEW and our members who are inspiring confidence at the heart of British businesses.
- About us
-
The region offers a wide range of activities to meet the needs and interests of our members. We play a key role in raising the profile of the Institute in the region through building relationships with key stakeholders and by ensuring that members’ views are promoted effectively on accountancy and business issues.
The work of representing our members’ interests in the North West is undertaken by our Regional Strategy Board and by three district societies; the Liverpool Society of Chartered Accounts, Manchester Chartered Accountants and the North West Society of Chartered Accountants. The Isle of Man Society also support over 500 members based on the island.
In demonstrating the crucial role chartered accountants have in creating prosperity across the region, we have worked closely with the NWDA and will continue this work with the newly-emerging Local Enterprise Partnerships. We also work with other organisations including Private Sector Partners, the Institute of Directors, Government offices and the Bank of England, to ensure the concerns of members in the region are heard by decision-makers at every level.
The regional staff can offer guidance in many areas including local business knowledge/contacts, advice on accessing funding, CPD, ACA training & ICAEW qualifications and networking.
- Support Members
-
Working or retired, most members face problems sometime in their life. Our local volunteer team of Support Members is always on hand to listen and offer advice on personal worries and work-related concerns on professional ethics, regulation and discipline. Support Members have a strict policy of confidentiality and are exempt from the duty to report misconduct.

The role of the Regional Strategy Board (RSB) is to help facilitate the work of District Society Office Holders and Regional Director within the region, identifying the key business issues affecting members and how to best address those issues.
The board meets three times a year to review overall activity and consider any Institute initiative to see if there is a regional input into the process and to ensure that key issues of importance to members are being addressed.
Alan Hyams is the current Chair of the North West board. If you are interested in finding out more or getting involved with the work of the board please contact Melanie Christie, Regional Director North West at melanie.christie@icaew.com
