Wales

There are about 3,000 chartered accountants working at the heart of business in professional services, commerce and in the public, charity and third sectors. Our aim is to raise the profile of ICAEW with the Welsh Assembly and to demonstrate that our members are inspiring confidence at every level.

About us

The Wales Business Centre offers a wide range of activities to meet the interests of our members in business and practice.

The work of representing our members’ interests throughout Wales is undertaken by the Strategy Board for Wales and by the South Wales Society in the south (including Powys) and by the Chester and North Wales branch of the Liverpool Society which includes the counties of Clwyd and Gwynedd.

In demonstrating the crucial role chartered accountants have in creating prosperity across Wales, we work closely with the Welsh Assembly Government as well as members of the National Assembly for Wales. We have representation on Business Wales and the Business Partnership Council (both of which have close links to government in Wales).

We also work with other professional organisations as part of Professions Group Wales and as part of Accounting for Sustainability Wales, launched by HRH Prince of Wales.

We have close links with a wide range of other organisations including the Institute of Welsh Affairs, the CBI, the Institute of Directors, and the Bank of England, to ensure that the concerns of members throughout Wales are heard by decision-makers at every level.

Strategy Board for Wales

The Strategy Board for Wales (formerly known as CABW - Chartered Accountants for Business in Wales) is the campaign voice for the chartered accountancy profession working with clients and businesses in Wales.

The objects of the Strategy Board for Wales (SBW) are as follows:

  • To act as the campaign voice for Chartered Accountants within Wales.
  • To champion the views of the business community in Wales, at all times acting in the public interest, through a combination of dialogue and participation in the policy making process at all levels of government.
  • To act as an information conduit between Chartered Accountants and stakeholders who include the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government, the UK parliament and the European Union.
  • To enhance the profile of Chartered Accountants in Wales.

The board meets twice a year (usually in mid Wales or Shrewsbury) to review overall activity as well as current Institute initiatives, and in order to respond to relevant Assembly consultations.
