The ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong was launched in March 2011 to provide meaningful annual bursaries to talented aspiring undergraduates and post-graduate students in Hong Kong universities.
By offering life-changing opportunities to aspiring students who may otherwise miss out, the ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong provides a leading example of how the traditions and values of chartered accountants make a difference to individuals and societies everywhere.
ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong is offering a new bursary with the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2016, to support a student for each year of their four year degree course. Students can apply directly to the University. Hear from our current students of Professional Accountancy on what the bursary meant to them:
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your generosity in providing this bursary…it will significantly help me to relive the burden of tuition payment. I am in my first year of the Bachelor of Professional Accountancy and have borrowed for my study. The bursary enables me to keep my debt much lower and encourages and inspires my future study.
I grew up in Hong Kong and I am studying Professional Accountancy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It means many things to me to attend college since my parents never had the opportunity to have high education due to financial problems. So I am the first to earn a degree in my family and they are very proud of me. Obviously this bursary will significantly reduce the financial burden on my family and allow me to dedicate more time to my studies.
We aim to raise HK$20m over the next five years to support up to 30 students a year.
Through the goodwill of our contacts we hope to inspire individuals, trusts and organisations to support the Foundation’s objectives in Hong Kong. The campaign is led in Hong Kong by volunteer Ken McKelvie, the ex-Chairman of Deloitte China and supported by Sir David Li, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia
“The responsibility for the success of the ICAEW Foundation in Hong Kong rests with those who believe in the accounting profession’s history of outstanding achievements – not only in creating and upholding standards and excellence but, just as importantly, in supporting and developing the talents of aspiring students”
Kenneth McKelvie, ICAEW Foundation and ex-chairman of Deloitte
