Audit is back at the heart of the debate about the financial crisis. in the aftermath of the crisis, regulators, accountants, users, and politicians all want their say, and they all have an appetite for change.

That was the background to the recent debate The audit Profession at a crossroads? held at Chartered Accountants’ Hall. Martyn Jones, ICAEW Vice-President elect and National Audit Technical Partner with Deloitte, led the panel debate with: ‘When the politicians get worried they prod us’, and he described the attitude of regulators as: ‘Why waste a crisis?’
