The One Young World Summit 2016 takes place in Ottawa, Canada, from 28 September to 1 October 2016 and brings together the finest young talent from across the globe to debate the key issues the world faces, sharing their ideas and experiences and working with peers to formulate and share innovative solutions.

What you will win

As a representative of ICAEW, you will form part of the cohort representing Chartered Accountants Worldwide. This life changing opportunity will enable you to meet globally influential political and business figures as well other One Young World ambassadors, to create lasting connections and enable positive change.

How to enter One Young ACA

Simply fill out the online nomination form explaining in no more than 300 words why you should be ICAEW’s representative at One Young World.

Within that statement we’re looking for an ACA who can demonstrate true leadership; how you inspire and motivate others, and present a vision of how you - and the profession - can have a positive impact on society. In addition, within the process our winner will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Confidence to represent ICAEW on the world stage; and
  • Ability in using different social media networks and tools.

Candidates are likely to already be demonstrating significant leadership skills in their roles, and should be able to demonstrate ICAEW’s values of ‘act responsibly’, ‘behave with integrity’, ‘create effective partnerships’ and ‘deliver the highest standards’.

To support your statement, you’ll also need to send us a comprehensive CV with details of two referees.

All candidates should inform their employer prior to entering the competition to ensure that you will be able to attend the judging day and One Young World Summit should you be successful.

The judging process

Entries will be shortlisted by an ICAEW shortlisting panel. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to meet an ICAEW judging panel on 27 July 2016, either in person or by Skype depending on their location. During the judging candidates will be interviewed and also asked to give a 15 minute presentation on this One Young World topic:

How can chartered accountants contribute to tackling corruption worldwide? You may want to take into consideration these points:

  • Corruption stunts development - how can we eradicate it?
  • The role of technology to ensure accountability
  • Increasing transparency of public spending

If you are successful in being shortlisted, you will also be asked to provide a short video to be submitted prior to judging day (by end of 18 July). The video - which you can film on your phone - should be no more than one minute long, offering a snapshot of why you should be selected for One Young World. It can be as simple or as creative as you like.

Terms and conditions
  1. The competition is run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Accountants' Hall, Moorgate Place, London, EC2R 6EA, UK.
  2. The competition is open to current registered and qualified ICAEW members aged 30 or under as of 31 December 2015.
  3. The closing date is midnight (GMT+1) on 30 June 2016.
  4. To enter, you must complete and submit the online nomination form available on www.icaew.com/one-young-aca
  5. No purchase is necessary to enter the competition. Entries can be submitted online at icaew.com/one-young-aca.
  6. Only one entry per person is permitted.
  7. The competition is only open to qualified ICAEW members and a member number must accompany submission.
  8. The prizes are as follows:
    • Funded delegate place at the One Young World Summit in Ottawa, 28 September to 1 October 2016, plus economy travel, accommodation and expenses
    • Article/profile in relevant ICAEW websites and publications
    • Be ICAEW’s official One Young ACA ambassador, invited to take part in a programme of events and promotional activities over a 12 month period.
  9. The prizes are offered as stated and are non-exchangeable or transferable. No cash alternatives will be provided.
  10. Travel and expenses will be paid and booked by ICAEW. Accommodation is included in the funded delegate place. Travel, expenses and accommodation to attend the judging day on 27 July 2016 or beyond the final date of the summit shall be at the expense of the candidate.
  11. Entrants must ensure that they have appropriate passport documentation and travel documentation, with at least six months validity to travel.
  12. All entries will be judged by a panel of individuals appointed by ICAEW. The decision of this panel shall be final.
  13. The winner of the prizes shall be notified by email by week commencing 11 July 2016.
  14. ICAEW reserves the right to feature the names of prize winners in future publicity, including in magazines, newsletters, websites or promotions and the prize winner consents to such publicity.
  15. The names of prize winners can be obtained by emailing miriam.jones@icaew.com no later than 10 working days after the judging date of the competition.
  16. ICAEW takes no responsibility for entries delayed, incomplete or lost.
  17. If a prize is declined or if a winner forfeits the prize under these terms and conditions, ICAEW may, at its absolute discretion, ask the panel to select an alternative winner.
  18. The decision of the panel appointed by ICAEW shall be final. ICAEW shall not be obliged to enter into any correspondence in respect of the decision.
  19. The personal data that you provide when you enter this competition will be used for the purposes of this competition only. Your personal data will not be shared with any other organisation.
  20. ICAEW accepts no liability for any loss or damage which may arise from the competition or use of the prize. It is the responsibility of the prize winner to obtain adequate travel insurance, and to cover any visa and passport costs.
  21. By entering the competition, the entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
