When I joined the ICAEW Mentoring and Executive Coaching Programme, I had already achieved quite a lot in my role. I’d built up the finance team and developed the role of finance within the firm. I had also developed relationships at operational director and commercial director level, and the next step for me was building relationships at board level.
After being paired with my mentor and meeting them, I discussed life goals – as opposed to merely career aims, which came as an initial surprise, but has had a big impact. My first challenge was to go away and talk to my family about it and as a result I’ve gained more focus and perspective.
A lot of the change has been subtle, but the mentoring has given me a lot of confidence. As a result, I’ve been invited to attend board meetings where I have presented the financials and am now being consulted by business leaders. I work in quite a challenging and fast paced environment, but my mentor has helped me to apply perspective to the issues I face and to stick to rational, clear thinking.
I was a bit sceptical about mentoring at first but it’s been really inspiring. I would like to be on the board one day and my mentor is helping me to achieve that goal. I would recommend mentoring to anybody. So much so, that I have joined a scheme where I will be a mentor myself for underprivileged kids.

After a consultation with our leadership team, you will be asked to select your top three mentor preferences and to provide us with your CV and development objectives. Following that, a stringent matching process is undertaken to ensure a good fit in terms of chemistry, experience and development needs.
Each session with your personal mentor/coach lasts 90 minutes. Sessions are booked directly between the mentor/coach and the delegate. Typically delegates use 8–10 sessions over a year.

Teuta joined Pepper Europe in May 2012 as European Chief Financial Officer and a Board member and is responsible for leading financial control, IT, HR, legal, project management and risk and compliance across Pepper's European operations.
Currently at Colas Rail UK, Chris's specialities cover strategic and detailed business objectives, operational finance and administration, cost control, procurement, IT and systems implementation and finance team improvement and development.
Paul trained as a coach with CTI in 2010 and completed the ICAEW NFL course in 2013. He is actively involved in leadership and coaching, both in and out of work. His goal is to work with individuals and businesses to help them achieve their potential.
Alice is a freelance Executive and Career Coach who works with leaders and emerging leaders across a wide range of businesses. Alice has a particular focus on clients from the financial and professional services sectors, where she brings a great deal of credibility, and her own commercial experience, to bear. Alice also writes on topical people and governance issues for the financial sector, and has a particular interest in the emerging area where the two overlap, including Board Effectiveness.
Bob used his accountancy qualification as the foundation to a career in financial management, starting with 12 years at Mars Inc. and 5 years at United Biscuits plc. He then moved to Cable & Wireless Communications plc where he was promoted to Chief Financial Officer followed by three other public company CFO roles.
Bruce Vincent is an Assurance, Risk and Accounting Executive with over 30 years of extensive international experience. Bruce has held roles at various levels in both internal and external audit, as well as finance management, with global responsibilities.
Ray’s coaching experience over the last 9 years covers a broad range of clients from FTSE 100 companies through privately owned organisations to NGO’s. He also has extensive experience working with international clients based outside of the UK from different cultural backgrounds including Europe, India, North Africa and the Middle East.
After qualifying as a chartered accountant, working as a partner in EY and a career in internal audit and risk, Mary is now a non-executive director. She is on the Board of the Royal Navy and chairs its Audit Committee and is a member of the Defence Audit Committee at the MOD. She is on the Board of Glasgow 2014 Limited and is a member of the Audit Committees of the ICAEW and HM Treasury.
