Abbreviations used in the Accountancy Ancestors database

The Accountancy Ancestors database provides an index to obituaries, portraits and other resources held in the collection of the ICAEW Library & Information Service.

The most common abbreviations you will find in the index are listed below.

ACA - Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland

ASAA - Associate of the Society of Accountants and Auditors (this body was later known by the names: Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors, Society of Incorporated Accountants)

CA - Chartered Accountant (e.g. Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants)

FAA - Fellow of the Central Association of Accountants

FCA - Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland

FSAA - Fellow of the Society of Accountants and Auditors (this body was later known by the names: Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors, Society of Incorporated Accountants)

LAA - Licentiate of the Central Association of Accountants

NA - Not applicable

NR - No age at death recorded in the obituary

X - Data not collected at the time of indexing
