The money laundering regime in the UK encompasses a number of government departments, agencies and other organisations. On this page you can access a list of UK government departments and agencies with responsibilities in this area, as well as other UK organisations with a focus on anti-money laundering.

UK Government departments and agencies

Financial Services Authority (FSA)

The Financial Services Authority was originally established by the government to regulate financial services and protect consumer rights. The FSA website includes a dedicated section on the Money Laundering Regulations.

HM Revenue & Customs

The HM Revenue & Customs website provides a dedicated section on the Money Laundering Regulations. The website also provides links to the detailed guidance approved by HM Treasury.

HM Treasury

The Counter Illicit Finance (HM Treasury) section of the HM Treasury website provides updates, legislation, policy and publications on money laundering.

An archive of the minutes from the meetings of the Money Laundering Advisory Committee is available through an archive of the HM Treasury website.

UK Financial Intelligence Unit (UKFIU)

The UK Financial Intelligence Unit (UKFIU) is the 'national responsibility for receiving, analysing and disseminating financial intelligence submitted through the Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) Regime' and sits within Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). The website includes publications section which includes the annual reviews of Suspicious Activity Reports.

Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers (IMLPO)
The IMLPO was established in 2001 as a broad, cross-representative forum of anti-money laundering practitioners who share views and experiences of the day-to-day business of combating money laundering.
