About us

The Society was formed in 1927. It covers the County of East Yorkshire, part of North Yorkshire around Scarborough, and the Counties of North and North East Lincolnshire and part of the County of Lincolnshire.

The society’s members come from accountancy practices small and large and from a range of business, public sector and Third Sector interests. The district society is deeply engaged in the development of the local economy and regards the promotion of the profession – especially among students – as a crucial part of its work.

It also acts as a link between ICAEW in Moorgate Place and members in the district.

Working Together – Your chance to change the relationship with HMRC

HMRC service issues are a major concern for members. There are processes in place both in Humberside and centrally through the ICAEW Tax Faculty for reporting and addressing problems.

Working Together

The Hull Working Together groups hold meetings two or three times a year, providing an opportunity for a free exchange of views between HMRC and Tax and VAT advisers on the way HMRC operates the tax system. The meetings have an agenda to make sure they're productive, but are also open and informal. Everything is up for discussion in a positive environment.

Working Together allows the representative bodies to speak to HMRC with a united voice while also gathering feedback from those working at the coalface advising clients. Since its formation, Working Together has achieved a great deal in improving communication and procedures.

HMRC has made changes as a direct result of feedback from the partnership, an example being the introduction of agent-dedicated lines to help resolve problems at HMRC's contact centres.

It’s important to be aware, though, that the meetings only address representative issues, not individual gripes – so a flow of suggestionsand submissions to our local reps is vital.

Your local Working Together Tax representatives are:

John Cheetham john.cheetham@cheethamallen.co.uk

Richard Miles richard@jacksonrobson.co.uk

For details of upcoming meetings please contact Regional Executive Alexia Bahadur: alexia.bahadur@icaew.com

If you have any service issues you need to report back please do so to either of your representatives - or you can contact Alexia Bahadur: alexia.bahadur@icaew.com

The alternate way of reporting issues is for members to post a comment on our Tax Forum – see below for link.
