It is your students' responsibility to register as an ACA student with ICAEW. They should only do this once you have performed any necessary employment checks and instructed your student to register. Please ensure your student registers at the start of their training and well in advance of any exam entry deadlines.
Your students can either register online or send us a completed application form.
Minimum entry requirements
The qualified person responsible for training (QPRT) in your organisation must ensure that students hold the required qualifications and/or minimum entry requirements to undertake ACA training. This should be done before student registration.
Online registration
We prefer students to register their details online. To do this your students will need your training office number. This is to ensure that only students with access to your office number can register themselves with you. This number is given on your authorisation certificate or you can contact our training department on +44 (0)1908 248 038 or email training@icaew.com
Registration forms
Where students are unable to register online (or where your organisation requires a hard-copy application) there are several different forms available.
Graduates
If your student is a graduate (but not an AAT) and is unable to register online please complete and return the registration form below.
AAT students
If your AAT qualified students are progressing onto the ACA (through the AAT-ACA Fast Track route) and is unable to register online please complete and return the form below. This form allows AAT students to register and
- apply for exemption from the Accounting exam module
- confirm eligibility for Financial Accounting Top-up unit
- apply for any credit for work experience.
Registering a student who is already part-way through training
If you have a student who joins your organisation from an ICAEW authorised training employer (ATE) and is already part-way through their ACA training programme, it is the employer who is responsible for 're-registering' that student and their training agreement.
Please do not take any action which might be construed by students or other authorised employers as encouragement to renege on their existing contractual or employment obligations.
You’ll need to ensure you have confirmation from their previous employer that the training agreement will be cancelled promptly and that the student is fit and proper to continue ACA training. We also advise that you request all relevant training records for that student are fully signed off prior to the student leaving their current employer.
Please be aware that students may have passed all ICAEW exams but still be under an ACA training agreement.
To re-register a student once they are in your employment you will need to complete and submit a re-registration form (PDF 41KB/2 pages).
Student registration fees
Training offices must pay an annual fee for each of their ACA students under training agreement (also known as a training contract). New registrations are invoiced separately from those students who have already completed one or more years of a training agreement.
The fee is incurred on the anniversary of the training agreement start date. However, to avoid the potential for offices to receive numerous invoices during the year, one invoice will be issued in respect of these students in December each year.
Paying fees by direct debit (PDF 460KB/1 page) is still the easiest way.
Confirmation of registrations
The qualified person responsible for training (or person responsible for training if the office is a subsidiary) will receive written confirmation of all students who register with your organisation.
Invoices
We will provide you with details of your students under training agreement each year. Invoices will be sent to the qualified person responsible for training (QPRT) unless we are notified otherwise. Please email studentfees@icaew.com to nominate an alternative contact or telephone +44(0)1908 248 250.
