ACA training - Summary of costs

Fees relating to ACA training include student registration, tuition, exam registration, credit for prior learning and learning materials. Some fees are payable to ICAEW (annual student registration, exam entry, credit for prior learning and learning materials) and some are payable directly to your chosen tuition provider.

Fees payable to ICAEW

Student registration fees

Training employers are charged an annual fee in arrears for each of their registered students. The current fee is £165 per student per year excluding VAT. The full amount is payable irrespective of when a student leaves your employment or becomes a member during the year.

Independent students

Independent students are charged an initial fee of £165 (+VAT where applicable) to become a registered student. They are then charged an annual fee of £165 (+VAT where applicable) on the 1 January following the date of registration.

Exam entry fees

It is common, but not compulsory, for a training employer to pay exam entry fees on behalf on their students. If you have any questions, please email exams@icaew.com.

Credit for prior learning costs

Exemption or credit for prior learning (CPL) is available (on some ACA Professional Stage exams) to students with relevant degrees or prior professional qualifications or learning.

  • 2012 costs are £65 per knowledge module and £85 per application module.

Credit is not available on Advanced Stage exams.

ACA learning materials costs

Please check with your tuition provider as some tuition providers will include the cost of the ACA learning materials within their tuition fees.

We recommend payment of fees by direct debit (PDF 460KB/1 page) for ease of administration.

Fees payable to your tuition provider

Tuition fees

ICAEW works with high-quality tuition providers across the world to deliver the training for the ACA qualification. Fees are set by the tuition provider and may vary depending on location, course structure and type (eg, residential, block, home-study or interactive remote learning). Some tuition providers will include the costs of the ACA learning materials within their tuition fees.
