Does the syllabus change and if so when?

Yes, the syllabus is updated every January. This ensures the ACA contains the latest technical content, laws and regulations. Updated Professional Stage learning materials are available from September of the year before. Advanced Stage learning materials are available in December. You can order ACA learning materials online from our distributor at www.gillards.com/icaew.

Where can I find the ACA syllabus and sample papers?

The syllabus and sample papers are available for all exams. Past exam papers are available for all written exams (Application and Advanced Stage). See exam resources.

Are past papers and sample papers available?

Yes. Sample papers are available for all exams. Past exam papers are available for all written exams (Application and Advanced Stage). See exam resources.

Why are there no past papers for the Knowledge modules at Professional Stage?

There are no past papers available for the Knowledge modules as they are examined by e-assessment. See exam resources for sample questions.

Can I sit the exams in any order?

Can I take books or publications into the exam and if so which ones?

Yes, some of our exams are open book. See Open books for more information on which exams are open book and recommended books.

Can I use learning materials from previous years?

The learning materials are extensively updated each year in line with syllabus changes and technical updates. Therefore, we recommend that you always use the latest edition. We cannot be held responsible for you answering an exam question incorrectly based on information you may have learnt from old learning materials.
