You may apply for credit for one or more of our Professional Stage examinations if you have an accounting or business related degree or a comparable qualification. Please note that you cannot apply for credit if you have previously attempted the paper.
Eligibility for students with a degree
To be eligible for credit based on a degree, you will need to
- have been awarded a UK bachelor degree (or comparable);
- apply for credit within five years of completion; and
- have achieved a minimum mark of 50% in all modules of your degree relevant to your application for credit
How to apply for credit online
The subject credits shown in the credit for prior learning directory have been agreed following a review of the programme, and credit for other papers will not normally be available. If you have taken the same module(s) as those listed in another programme then credit can be awarded on the same basis.
If your degree is not listed, or your modules vary from those listed, you will need to apply using credit for prior learning - graduate application form (PDF 280KB/19 pages).
Completing your applications
Once you have completed the application process you will be asked to send documentation to support your credit application. All documents must be in English and any translations must be formally certified.
If your degree is listed in the CPL directory you will need to send:
- Evidence of modules completed and marks/grades gained (usually a transcript)
- Evidence of the award (for example a certificate)
Good quality copies or scanned versions may be used but the ICAEW reserves the right to ask for additional verification/alternate documents. Original documents are sent at the owner’s risk.
Please note we do not accept screenshots of web notification pages or similar electronic notifications.
If your degree is not listed on the directory you will need to complete a set of assessment grids to indicate where the individual paper learning outcomes have been met. You will need to include with your application:
- Evidence of modules completed and marks/grades gained (for example a transcript)
- Evidence of the award (for example a certificate)
- Syllabuses and exam papers for each module listed in the grids
Copies of the grids are included in the credit for prior learning - graduate application form (PDF 138KB/19 pages) and are printed at the end of the application process.
Awards being used to apply for credit must meet the following criteria:
- a pass mark of at least 50% in each module relevant to the application
- the examination element of each module is at least 50%
- application made within five years of completion of degree studies.
Allow up to 14 days for your application to be processed.
