The Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) is made up of six modules: Business and Finance, Management Information, Accounting, Law, Assurance, and Principles of Taxation.
Each module assessment is 1.5 hours long and you can take them at a time that suits both you and your employer.
Before booking assessments you will need to register as a CFAB student.
ICAEW suggest all CFAB students download and read the computer based assessments guidance (PDF 1MB/8 pages). The study guide includes information you will find useful as a CFAB student and more on the topics below.
- Preparing for your assessment
-
Please refer to the CFAB study guide (PDF 1MB/20 pages), which includes information on how to prepare for your assessments, what happens before, during and after an assessment, and what happens if you need to resit.
In addition, there is a CFAB assessment resources section where you can find:
- Sample online assessment.
- Sample papers for each of the modules.
- Webinars for each CFAB module* that provide superb hints and tips from professional tutors, giving you extra guidance when preparing for your CFAB assessments.
*Except the Law module.
- Booking an assessment
-
Computer-based assessments are available all year round. You can book an assessment at a time suitable for you and your employer, subject to availability.
Assessments can be taken either at approved test centres (PDF 19KB/1 page) or through Pearson Vue.
If you are booking through the Pearson Vue website you will need to sign in. Your Pearson Username and Password are both 'ICAEW' followed by your student number (e.g. ICAEW1234567). You will then be prompted to change your password for security, but your username will remain the same.
- Cost of assessments
-
Each assessment module costs £65.
- Alternative arrangements for assessments
-
If you are a carer, have a disability, health condition, or specific learning difficulty that is likely to affect you during an assessment, please contact us as early as possible so that we can assess what. You will need to complete and send an alternative arrangements application form (which can be downloaded below) and send this to ICAEW.
Please ensure ICAEW receive this no later than 90 days before you intend to sit the assessment and that appropriate medical evidence is provided.
Once you have received approval from ICAEW, please contact the assessment centre no less than 48 hours before the start time to inform them of the arrangements. When you sit the assessment the assessment centre will schedule the extra time for you.
If you would like to talk to someone about your arrangements, please contact the student support team on +44 (0)1908 248 250 or email cfab@icaew.com.
- Cancelling or rescheduling an assessment
-
You can reschedule an assessment provided you notify your chosen assessment centre at least 24 hours in advance. You must reschedule your assessment if you are unable to attend due to illness or injury.
- Accessing your results
-
You may access your results on the ICAEW website the day after your assessment. Results are available by logging into the CFAB student area of the website.
You may choose to forward an electronic copy of any result to your employer from your results page.
In addition, all students will receive an email notification with a summary of their results at the end of each month.
Once you’ve passed all the assessments you will be sent a certificate of completion.
- Re-sitting the assessment
-
If you do not pass the assessment at the first attempt, you may make an application to re-sit. You will be able to book this immediately after the assessment.
