Credits for prior learning, or exemptions, are available to individuals who hold relevant qualifications. If you have an accounting or business related degree or a professional accountancy qualification you may apply for credits against CFAB modules.
With credits, it may be possible for you to complete CFAB in less than one year depending on your existing commitments and your chosen method of study.
Credits available for CFAB
Credits, based on prior qualifications (degree, AAT or other professional qualifications), are available against CFAB modules as follows.

*Credit for the Accounting module is available to AAT qualified students who have passed the ACA Financial Accounting top-up assessment or university graduates who have passed the ACA Financial Accounting module.
Eligibility
Guidance notes on applying for credit for prior learning for CFAB are available to help you determine whether you will be eligible for credits.
In addition, the following minimum requirements apply to applications for credit for prior learning.
Degree
- You must have achieved a minimum mark of 50% in all degree modules relating to your application for credit for prior learning.
- The examination element of each module must have been at least 50%.
- You must apply for credit for prior learning within five years of completing your degree studies.
AAT
- You must have completed both intermediate and technician levels.
Professional qualification
- Credit for prior learning is usually dependent upon membership or completion of specified papers.

Use the search facility to see if your university or professional qualification has been evaluated for credit purposes.
If you are registered as a CFAB student you will only see CFAB specific details when searching the online directory. If you have not registered for CFAB then you will be shown details for the ACA qualification.
Apply for credit for prior learning
Once you have determined whether you are eligible to receive credit for prior learning, you must apply online. There is a non-refundable charge of £65 for each module against which you apply for credit for prior learning.
Please note that applications for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) can only be submitted for a maximum of five subjects.
