Transatlantic Roundtables

As part of the Beyond the myth of Anglo-American corporate governance initiative, two transatlantic roundtables provided an opportunity for the exchange of experience and sharing of knowledge.

Participants represented business leaders, the investment community, the accountancy profession and policy makers from both sides of the Atlantic.

London Roundtable

The London Roundtable was convened by the ICAEW on the 9 and 10 January 2007 at Chartered Accountants' Hall. 

The London Roundtable convened 24 speakers, including 7 speakers from the US who reflected on the findings outlined in the Emerging Issues paper.

Keynote presenters included, among others, The Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Sir Christopher Hogg, Chairman of the FRC, Lady Judge, Chairman of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Charles Niemeier, Board Member of the PCAOB and Ethiopis Tafara, International Affairs Directors of the SEC.

The roundtable was preceded by a dinner at Chartered Accountants’ Hall on the evening of Tuesday 9 January at which The Rt Hon John McFall MP of the Treasury Select Committee and Tim Bush from Hermes UK Focus Funds made keynote presentations.

Washington DC Roundtable

The Washington Roundtable was convened by the ICAEW on the 5 and 6 December 2005 at the Senate Banking Committee Hearing Room. The Washington DC Roundtable convened 28 speakers, including 9 speakers from the UK who discussed the questions outlined in the Pressure Points consultation (PDF 142kb/15 pages) which was published at the event.

Keynote presenters included, among others, Commissioner Cynthia Glassman of the Securities & Exchange Commission, Bob Herz of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Robert Pozen, Chairman of MFS Investment Management, Tony Watson of Hermes Pensions Management, and Raymond Troubh, Former Chairman of Enron Corp.

The roundtable was preceded by a dinner at the Hyatt Regency, Capitol Hill on the evening of Monday 5 December 2005 at which Jules Muis, Former Director-General and Chief Internal Auditor of the European Commission, made a keynote address.
