The buck stops here? New challenges for Audit Committees

Following the successful events that ICAEW have run for Audit Committee Chairmen over the past two years ICAEW hosted a meeting held on 25 October at 4.30pm to 6.45pm. In this initiative for Audit Committee Chairmen we were supported by BDO LLP, the major accountancy firm. Download the joint research report on audit committee reporting (PDF 1.1MB/28 pages) that was launched at the event.

The meeting was designed for Audit Committee Chairmen to discuss the implications for Audit Committees of the significant extra responsibilities and accountabilities that they are likely to shoulder in the very near future. The meeting provided a unique opportunity to discuss key issues and to share experience and insights.

Governance: making board evaluations work for you

The board, its composition and evaluation of performance is central to corporate governance.

Board evaluations, when undertaken properly, can identify areas of strength and weakness, leading organisations to make changes that positively impact performance and shareholder value. However, research has shown that the majority of companies are not submitting themselves to independent board performance evaluations.

Over 70 FTSE chairs, directors, company secretaries and corporate governance experts took part in the discussions.
