Financial Reporting Faculty Board

The faculty is managed by the Head of Faculty, Dr Nigel Sleigh-Johnson, working with the Faculty Board, chaired by Stephanie Henshaw, Technical Standards Partner for Francis Clark LLP. The board works with the head of faculty to determine priorities and direct operations.

It delegates responsibility for particular tasks and functions to sub-committees and working parties as it sees fit. It meets at least quarterly. Members of the board have been actively involved in the development of the faculty to date.

Stephanie Henshaw FCA (Chair)

Stephanie is Technical Standards Partner with Francis Clark LLP. She is chair of the Financial Reporting Faculty Board and has served on a number of ICAEW technical committees and working parties.

Kathryn Cearns FCA

Kathryn is a freelance consultant on corporate reporting and governance. For 14 years until August 2014 she was a partner-equivalent at Herbert Smith Freehills, the international law firm, where she was the firm’s Consultant Accountant. Before that she was a project director at the Accounting Standards Board. She is the Chairman of the Financial Reporting Advisory Board to HM Treasury, which advises the UK government on public sector financial reporting.

Vanessa Gough FCA

Vanessa is Group Reporting Controller at Johnson Matthey Plc. She is responsible for external financial reporting, the group’s management reporting and providing technical accounting advice to the group.

Neil Harris FCA 

COO of EA Technology Limited, £18m SME providing solutions to the global high voltage electricity industry. Director of electricity employers’ pension oversight company. Peter Nicol FCA

Nigel Sleigh-Johnson FCA (Secretary)

Nigel is also Secretary to ICAEW's Financial Reporting Committee. He is responsible for ICAEW policy on financial reporting and its commentary on consultations issued by the IASB and other bodies.

Andrew Spooner FCA

Andrew leads liaisons with other major accounting firms and the IASB on all matters related to financial instruments, and with key international and national regulators on IFRS developments and interpretive issues. Andrew is a member of EFRAG’s Technical Expert Group and a member of ESMA’s Consultative Working Group for the Corporate Reporting Standing Committee. 

Danielle Stewart FCA

Danielle is Head of Financial Reporting at RSM. She is a member of the Financial Reporting Council's UK technical advisory group, as well as being the profession's Red Tape Challenge champion at BIS. Danielle also has an OBE for services to accountancy and small business.

David Blair FCA

David studied chemistry at Oxford and holds an MBA from Manchester Business School. After qualifying with Price Waterhouse in 1987 he spent four years in the firm’s corporate finance department, leaving to lead a successful MBI team. A member of the Corporate Finance and Finance and Management Faculties of the Institute of Chartered Accountants; he is also a current member of the Institute Council and Past President of the East Anglia District Society.

Donna Caira FCA

Donna Caira BSc trained and qualified as an ACA with Coopers & Lybrand in the financial services division. At Saffery Champness Donna is Technical Partner on audit and accounts and is responsible for the firm’s audit quality as Audit Compliance Principal. She is also Ethics Partner and regularly delivers ethics training on the firm’s in-house student training programme. She is also a regular contributor to the firm’s suite of technical publications, delivers training at the Annual Conference and has also provided FRS 102 seminars for clients.

Steven Brice FCA

Steven is the Partner in charge of Mazars’ Financial Reporting Advisory team and is highly experienced in IFRS, UK GAAP (new and old) and also financial reporting valuations. Steven is routinely appointed as an Expert Accountant on forensic and investigation matters. Steven is also a member of the Financial Reporting Council’s UK Technical Advisory Group.

 

 

Financial Reporting Faculty Committee (FRC)

The FRC is responsible for the development of ICAEW policy on financial reporting issues and ensures ICAEW authoritatively reflects the views of members. The committee sits under the Faculty Board, but retains technical independence.

Phil is a partner at Deloitte. He leads Deloitte’s global expert advisory panel on revenue recognition and is part of the team that produces Deloitte’s GAAP publication. He chairs the Financial Reporting Editorial Board.

Alex Brougham FCA

Alex is a specialist in financial reporting and disclosure matters for financial services. Most recently Alex was Group Finance Disclosure Officer and Head of Group Accounting Policy for UBS, following similar responsibilities at Morgan Stanley. Alex has various non-executive responsibilities and participates in a number of industry forums including the Enhanced Disclosure Task Force and at ICAEW. 

Martin Cavey ACA

Martin is a sole practitioner providing general accounting services for his clients. He is a member of the directing group for the Southern Society of Chartered Accountants.

Jo Clube ACA

Jo heads the team responsible for Group accounting policy at Aviva PLC. She is a member of the CFO Forum Insurance Accounting Group, of the IASB’s Financial Institutions Advisory Group and of EFRAG’s Business Model Advisory Panel.

Jake Green FCA

Jake is Grant Thornton UK LLP’s technical partner, with responsibility for leading the firm’s technical team. Jake advises the firm and its clients on a wide range of financial reporting topics, dealing with both UK GAAP and IFRS. Jake also represents Grant Thornton International on the IFRS Advisory Council, and the joint IASB and FASB Revenue Transition Resource Group.

Peter Hogarth FCA

Peter is a partner at PwC and leads the firm's UK Accounting Consulting Services group. He advises the firm and its clients across a wide range of financial reporting topics, dealing with both UK GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards. He is a principal author of PwC’s Manual of Accounting and is closely involved with many of the firm’s initiatives concerning the future direction of financial reporting. 

Sam Holland

Sam leads the Accounting Specialist team responsible for the EMEA and Asia Pacific region of S&P’s Corporate Ratings Group. Sam’s team provides direction on how financial statement information is analysed and incorporated into S&P’s financial analysis and ratings considerations. Sam joined the company in 2010. Sam’s expertise is called upon by S&P’s credit analysts on complex accounting areas such as derivatives, pensions and other topics. His responsibilities include providing IFRS training for credit analysts across EMEA and considering the impact of changes in IFRS on S&P’s ratings criteria. He is also a key part of S&P’s outreach efforts to the IASB, FASB and regulators.

Steve Hubbard

Steve is a director in KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice which advises on accounting and financial reporting issues arising under International Financial Reporting Standards, UK GAAP (both old and new) and UK Company Law. Steve has specialised in many areas of accounting and is the lead UK member of KPMG’s EMA Financial Instrument Centre of Excellence, a small group of financial instrument specialists set up to advise on complex financial instrument accounting issues.

Catriona Lawrie

Catriona is a director in the Financial Reporting Advisory team and leader of Mazars’ Financial Reporting Large Corporate Pillar, which provides technical advice to listed and major corporate organisations. She is a technical accounting specialist with a broad range of accounting expertise, covering UK GAAP, IFRS, and FRS 101. 

Liz Murrall FCA

Liz is Director Stewardship and Reporting at The Investment Association, the trade body representing the UK asset management industry. She is a member of the FRC’s Accounting Council and Codes and Standards Committee, as well as the Standards Advisory Group of the US PCAOB.

Dr Christopher Nobes FCCA

Chris is a professor of accounting at the University of London and at the University of Sydney. He was one of the UK's representatives on Board of the IASC. He is a member of the Academic Panel of the Accounting Council.

Tessa Park

Tessa Park is the Technical Partner of Kingston Smith LLP. She is responsible for advising the firm’s partners and staff on all aspects of FRS 102 and IFRS and for preparing and presenting technical guidance and training on both financial reporting and auditing. She also acts as the independent review partner on a number of the firm’s listed and high profile clients. She is a member of the Financial Reporting Council’s Technical Advisory Group. 

Lynn Pearcy FCA

Lynn was a financial reporting technical partner with KPMG for many years, prior to her retirement in 2015. She works with a number of charities and is also a member of the ICAEW’s Financial Reporting Editorial Board.

Kazim Razvi

Kazim Razvi is a director at Fitch Ratings. He is the global head of accounting research & policy. He joined Fitch in early 2015. Prior to this, Kazim worked as a technical accounting advisor to Moody’s and helped set up a technical department for Augentius Private Equity Funds Administration.

Ken Rigelsford FCA

Ken is a director in the accounting technical department at Deloitte. He has been closely involved in the development of the new UK GAAP and is a member of the Financial Reporting Council’s UK GAAP Technical Advisory Group. He is also a member of the Company Law and Business Law committees of the Institute. He chairs the Distributable Profits Working Party (a joint working party with ICAS) and is regarded as a leading experts in this field. Ken is also one of the principal authors of the volumes of Deloitte GAAP 2016 addressing FRS 102 and the UK legal and regulatory framework.

Danielle Stewart FCA

Sondra Tarshis FCA

Sondra is Senior Manager in Accounting Developments at HSBC. Sondra chairs ICAEW’s Financial Instruments Working Party, is a member of the ICAEW Banking Committee and of FEE’s accounting Working party.

Alison Ring FCA

Alison is the Commissioners’ Advisory Accountant for HMRC, and has worked in HMRC for over 20 years giving advisory accountancy advice across the policy, operational and litigation areas. Prior to that, Alison worked in practice in Hughes Allen in London.

Financial Reporting Editorial Board

The Financial Reporting Editorial Board works with faculty staff to ensure that factsheets and other publications are relevant, reliable and understandable. The team of expert volunteers, chaired by Phil Barden of Deloitte, bring a wealth of experience from a variety of backgrounds. They ensure that factsheets combine technical accuracy and practical tips, designed to ease the burden of keeping pace with an ever changing and complex financial reporting environment.

Sunil Bhavnani FCA

Sunil is senior technical manager at Blick Rothenberg. In this role, he is responsible for the provision of technical support and training to partners and staff, clients and intermediaries on financial reporting, company law, and auditing issues. 

Robert Carroll

Robert is a Director in the UK technical department at Deloitte. He is a member of ICAEW’s Company Law Committee. He is a contributor to the Deloitte and ukGAAP publications. 

Brian Creighton

Brian is a Director in BDO’s Accounting and Reporting Advisory Unit. Brian is the chair of the LSCA Technical committee and a member of the ICAEW Company Law sub-committee and the ICAEW/ICAS Distributable Profits Working Party.

Mary Holden

Mary is a financial reporting specialist at Grant Thornton. She provides technical support, develops technical material and delivers training on IFRS, UK GAAP and UK Company law. She is also a member of the LSCA Technical Committee. 

Matthew Howells

Matthew Howells is an associate director in the National Assurance Technical Group at Smith & Williamson and sits on the Nexia Smith & Williamson Technical and Quality Monitoring Committees. He provides technical support, develops technical material and presents seminars and workshops on financial reporting and audit matters to staff and clients. He is also a member of the Quoted Companies Alliance’s Financial Reporting Expert Group.

Paul Merris

Paul Merris is Head of Financial Reporting Advisory at Baker Tilly. He is a technical accounting specialist with vast experience and knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP and company law.

Ian Ogilvy ACA

Ian is a Senior Financial Reporting Manager at Walgreens Boots Alliance. He has responsibility for the delivery of results and related statutory accounts in accordance with US and UK GAAP. Ian was previously a technical accountant at HMRC where he led HMRC’s new UK GAAP project team. 

Lynn Pearcy FCA

Lynn was a financial reporting technical partner with KPMG for many years, prior to her retirement in 2015. She works with a number of charities and is also a member of the ICAEW’s Financial Reporting Editorial Board.

David F Rice

Dave is a technical senior manager supporting the Deloitte practice in the UK. As an expert technical accountant, he has extensive IFRS, UK GAAP and Company Law knowledge and experience.

Colin Wheeler

Colin is a financial reporting technical manager supporting the Mazars UK practice. He provides technical advice on financial reporting matters and is involved in the preparation and presentation of training material to staff and clients on IFRS, UK GAAP and company law.

 

Financial Reporting Advisory Group

The Financial Reporting Faculty Advisory Group is composed of highly influential figures from business, academia, the user community, regulators and the profession.

The Advisory Group meet once or twice a year to consider the wider financial reporting agenda and provide general advice to the FRF Board on trends and developments that might impact on the scope and direction of faculty activities.

Veronica Poole

Veronica is Deloitte's Senior Accounting Technical Partner. She is the DTTL Global IFRS Leader, UK National Head of Accounting and Corporate Reporting and a member of the DTTL and UK Audit Quality Boards. She is a member of the UK FRC's Corporate Reporting Council, HM Treasury's Financial Reporting Advisory Board and the UK Hundred Group Financial Reporting Committee.

Ray Ball

Ray is the Sidney Davidson Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting in the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago. Ray is co-ordinating editor of Journal of Accounting Research and a member of the editorial board of Australian Journal of Management. Ray is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Harbour Funds and was elected to the Accounting Hall of Fame.

Stephen Cooper

Stephen is a member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Stephen has been actively involved in the IASB's work for a number of years, most recently as a member of the IASB's Analyst Representative Group and Financial Statement working group. Prior to joining the IASB full-time he was managing director and head of valuation and accounting research at UBS investment bank in London. He is also closely involved with the Corporate Reporting User Forum (CRUF), a group of analysts and investors that discuss and present views on reporting issues.

Paul Druckman

Paul is Chief Executive Officer of the IIRC. Paul is well known and respected in business and in the accounting profession worldwide. Following an entrepreneurial career in the software industry, Paul operated as a non-executive chairman and director for companies in a variety of sectors until taking over this post. Formerly a Director of the UK Financial Reporting Council; member of the City Takeover Panel; and President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Other interests have included chairing The Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability Project (A4S) Executive Board.

Stig Enevoldsen

Stig Enevoldsen is a retired partner from Deloitte, Denmark. He has been member of the EF-RAG Board since 2014, and was member of EFRAG TEG from 2001 to 2010 and fulltime Chairman and CEO of EFRAG from 2004 to 2010. Stig is currently Member of the Danish Accounting standards committee in the Danish Institute and vice chair of the FEE Cor-porate Reporting Policy Group. 

Robert Herz FCA

Bob Herz is former chairman of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). Prior to joining the FASB, Bob was a senior partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers and also served as a part-time member of the IASB. He is both a certified public accountant and an ICAEW chartered accountant. Bob currently serves on several corporate and foundation boards, is a member of the faculty of the Columbia University Business School, the Leadership Board of the Manchester Business School, and the Accounting Oversight Council of Canada. He has also chaired various committees, including the AICPA SEC regulations committee and the Transnational Auditors Committee of IFAC.

Robin Freestone ACA

Robin retired from Executive life in mid 2015 after 9 years as CFO of Pearson plc. He is now a non executive director of Smith and Nephew plc and Moneysupermarket. Com plc, where he chairs the Audit Committee. Until May 2016 ( when it was sold to Liberty global Inc) he was a non executive and senior independent director at Cable and wireless communications plc. 

Paul Lee

Paul is Head of Corporate Governance at Aberdeen Asset Management and is responsible for global stewardship activities – engagement and dialogue with the boards of companies in which the firm invests. Previously, Paul was Head of Investment Affairs at the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) and helped create and lead the Equity Ownership Services business at Hermes Fund Managers. Among various industry roles, he is a member of the IASB’s Capital Markets Advisory Committee. 

Ian Mackintosh

Ian was vice-chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) until 30 June 2016. He is currently the chair of the Financial Reporting Advisory board of HMRC. Ian was Chair of the UK Accounting Standards Board from 2004 to 2010. He was previously partner in Coopers and Lybrand in Australia. He has held positions at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the World Bank, the Australian Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, the IFAC Public Sector Committee and the Australian Accounting Standards Board.

Mark Vaessen

Mark is a partner with KPMG LLP in the UK and is KPMG’s global IFRS leader. Mark is an IFRS advisor to several multinational clients and to the South-Korean securities markets regulator (FSS). He is also involved in various professional activities relating to financial reporting policy and regulatory matters. He chairs the Corporate Reporting Policy Group of the European Federation of Accountants (FEE) and serves as a member on the EFRAG Supervisory Board and the ESMA Consultative Working Group on corporate reporting. Until 2013, Mark was also a member of the IFRS Advisory Council.
