NHS Pension Scheme update

Ross Mathieson and Paula Peppas of the NHS Pensions Division report on the Healthcare Group Conference at Villa Park on 4 February.

In his session at the recent Healthcare Group Conference, Ross Mathieson, scheme compliance manager, NHS Pensions Division, explained that the National Health Service Pension Scheme (NHSPS (England & Wales)) was in fact the Secretary of State's scheme.

The Department of Health (DoH) enacted the scheme policy and legislation, consolidating changes in the scheme's provision in 1995, and this became known as the National Health Service Pension Scheme Regulations 1995. The scheme is a statutory public sector scheme, which is underwritten by the Exchequer.
