Running a business in the theatre industry is not only a thankless task, it can be injurious to your wealth, but despite government funding being slashed some have adapted to the new environment.
Theatre high season comes at Christmas with many business plans hanging on the ability to generate sufficient cash to take the companies past the end of January. However, touring companies very rarely make, “big bucks,” says Brian Johnson, business recovery and insolvency partner at Fisher Partners. “In essence it is all about having an understanding of cash flow – and generating it,” he says. “The fact is anyone supporting the arts is taking a risk.”
