Support and advice for business members
How do I know what I say to you will go no further?
Ethics Advisory Staff are free from the duty to report misconduct. Therefore you can speak in confidence knowing that details will not be passed to others.
If you are under investigation we will seek your consent before disclosing information to the Professional Conduct Department.
Your helpline is closed. Where can I obtain urgent advice?
Our opening hours are 9.15 to 5.10 Monday to Friday, 9:45-5:10 Wednesday. We also need to close the line from time to time for essential staff training. If you need to speak with someone when the line is closed our Support Member volunteers are willing to accept direct contact.
Do I have to give you my name and membership number?
We ask for membership details to ensure that you are entitled to use this member service and to enable us to identify trends in enquiries and develop material quickly in response to emerging issues. This is a confidential service and your details will not be passed to others. Members who insist on remaining anonymous will still be given advice.
I am not a member. Can I contact the helpline on behalf of a member?
Yes. Ordinarily members representatives may contact the helpline. Depending on the circumstances we may advise that it is better for us to speak direct to the member concerned.
I am not a member. Can I contact the helpline on behalf of a member firm?
Yes. Non members calling on behalf of a member firm to which they belong are entitled to advice from our helpline. However non-members seeking advice about their personal circumstances should contact their own professional body.
I have a complaint about a Chartered Accountant, can you help?
We will give general advice about ICAEW guidance to members with concerns about other members. However we cannot determine whether a member has acted inappropriately. If you want to know if you have grounds for a complaint please contact the complaints helpline on +44(0)1908 546 235.
