2007 committee elections and AGM

2007 Annual General Meeting

On 18 June 2007 the Corporate Finance Faculty held its Annual General Meeting at Chartered Accountants’ Hall.

The AGM marked another growth year for the faculty and pointed the way forward for next year’s strategy. Among the highlights were:

  • Membership numbers increased by 12%
  • International influence maintained with 10% of membership based overseas
  • Corporate member firms increased to 70
  • Increased attendance at lunchtime seminars and the introduction of a number of new types of events including the December Debate and the re-introduction of chairman’s lunches

Board elections

Peter Hemington, BDO Stoy Hayward has stood down from the Board and has been replaced by Chris Searle, BDO Stoy Hayward. David Coffman, assistant director in corporate finance at IAF Securities has been replaced by Nigel Guy, deputy managing director of Baird Capital Partners Europe.

The other new members of the Board are Giles Derry, Dunedin Capital Partners and Anshita Madhock, Barclays Capital.

Chris Ward, Faculty chairman and Vera Sabeva, head of the Faculty expressed their thanks to the two departing members of the Faculty Board and welcomed the new joiners.

Technical committee

Ian Smart, managing partner, Grant Thornton Corporate Finance and chairman of the Technical committee for most of the preceding financial year, spoke about the ‘cross discipline’ nature of the Faculty members and how fundamentally important it was to get volunteer input particularly on the technical work within the Faculty. He also encouraged members to input to consultations through the Faculty and to have their voice heard. He thanked Katerina Joannou, the capital markets policy manager who joined the Faculty during the year and who has improved the work of the committee.

Chris Searle, partner at BDO Stoy Hayward has become chairman of the Technical Committee replacing Ian Smart. Ian has been chairman of the Technical Committee since June 1999 and will remain on the committee and also retains his position as deputy vice chairman of the Faculty Board.

Vera Sabeva thanked all Board and Technical Committee members for their help over the year and to Ian Smart for his valuable contribution over his term as chairman of the Technical Committee. She also thanked Chris Ward, chairman of the Faculty and Faculty staff for their inspired contribution over the last year.
