Conciliation

Conciliation is a process which gives the accountant the opportunity to resolve your complaint.

If the assessor thinks conciliation is more appropriate than investigation, it does not mean that your complaint is less serious.

The conciliator will try to help you and your accountant to reach an agreement. If your accountant is prepared to take the steps you have outlined, or suggests alternatives which are acceptable to you, we will try to resolve the matter without using the Institute’s formal disciplinary procedures. We do not have the power to award compensation, but it may be possible to broker a monetary settlement between the parties through conciliation.

We sometimes need to copy correspondence to both parties. If you do not want the other party to see any or all of your correspondence, please tell us.

If your complaint is resolved through conciliation, we will consider the matter closed and will not take disciplinary action against the member or the firm. If conciliation does not resolve your problem and there still appears to be a case to answer, we may pass your complaint to a case manager who will investigate it.
