Standards

The IT Faculty supports the development and maintenance of standards that help systems work together and communicate more efficiently.

XBRL

The Institute, through the IT Faculty, is a member of the XBRL UK consortium. XBRL, which stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language, enables business and financial data to be communicated and processed automatically by computer software. It is an open standard, free of licence fees, which can handle data in different languages and accounting standards.

XAPL

A new standard for handling and communicating data – principally client data – that is common between the software systems used by accountancy practices has been developed under the auspices of the IT Faculty, through its Practice Software Suppliers’ Forum.

XAPL (eXtensible Accountancy Practice Language) is an open standard. The relevant files are available for download from this site as a single zip file (ZIP 738kb) or from this group.
