Glossaries

Accountancy Abbreviations (ICAEW)
Directory developed by the ICAEW's Library and Information Service, providing a central access point to abbreviations used in the accountancy profession and related fields. It includes the abbreviations of organisations, qualifications and other acronyms of accounting documents. The emphasis is on the UK, but the directory also includes the most important worldwide abbreviations. Alongside each abbreviation you will find a definition, a direct link where available and, in some cases, notes to help clarify what has happened to a defunct organisation or qualification.

Accounting Dictionary (VentureLine)
Online dictionary of accounting terms focussed on the United States.

Accounting Terminology Guide (NYSSCPA)
A glossary produced by the New York State Society of CPAs for financial journalists, but which is a highly useful resource for users trying to grapple with American accounting terms.

Company Extensions and Security Identifiers (Corporate Information)
Definitions of different countries company extensions and abbreviations, indicating which country the term is used in and providing a definition of what it means.

Dictionary (MoneyExtra)
Plain English explanation of financial services terms and jargon.

Fee surveys

Accounting Web Fee Survey
Survey organised by Accounting Web which provides data on how much accountants are charging for their services. The survey can be downloaded in PDF format (17 pages) and includes a breakdown by type of work and region. Requires free registration to access content.

Libraries

Institute of Actuaries
Online library from the Institute of Actuaries, including: a fully searchable library catalogue, listings of new books, papers and journals received by the library, reading lists and guides, and details of library services.

Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia Online Library
Information on the ICAA collection of resources and information services, including details of its online library catalogue.

Chartered Accountants Ireland
Information on the Research and Information Services provided by the institute, including details of its open access online catalogue.

Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand Library
Information on library services provided by ICANZ, including details of its online catalogue.

Scottish Accountancy Research Trust
Website of the Scottish Accountancy Research Trust which includes the annual reports of the Trust and information on the SATER Information Service. The SATER Information Service pages include information on the location and opening hours of the service, an alphabetical listing of their periodical collection (including their holdings by date range), access to their online catalogue and details of other information resources available.

Portals

Accountants World
A gateway to US accounting resources, including news, research resources, sample letters and forms and reference tools.

Accounting Education
A site aimed at accountancy academics with international coverage. It includes news, an articles database, reviews, links, a collection of online resources, jobs and information on events. A free email alerting service is available.

AccountingWeb
News and information relevant to UK accountants and guides to online information sources.

AuditNet Resource List
A directory of resources available for auditors, updated regularly.

Encyclopaedia of Current Accounting Law and Practice
A subscription-based service offering cross referenced Encylopaedia entries from a range of sources including accounting standards, statute, case law and FRRP findings. The service previously existed as a looseleaf service of 25 years standing. Searches can be made by source, or by topic which pulls up all relevant entries in each source. Additionally a confidential enquiry service is provided where no existing material can be found.

Financial Management
A collection of links for financial and treasury professionals, ‘grouped to correspond with the major topic headings in Fundamentals of Financial Management, 13th ed., Pearson Education Limited (2009) by James Van Horne and John Wachowicz’.

Intute: Business and management
Online portal gathering together links to resources for education and research, reviewed by professionals. Subjects covered include accountancy, auditing and accounting, education and research.

Web CPA
Useful US-focused resource site featuring a newsfeed, surveys of various top 100s for the accounting sector, daily columns, and weblinks. The site also provides access to the latest online editions of latest issues of Practical Accountant, Accounting Technology and Accounting Today.

Accounting research and working papers

City University
Archive of working papers from CASS Business School at City University, including a number of papers focused on accounting and auditing.

University of Essex
Archive of working papers from the Essex Business School, including a number of papers by Austin Mitchell and Prem Sikka.

University of Exeter
Online working papers from the Accounting Faculty at the University of Exeter Business School. The archive holds papers from 2001 onwards.

Lancaster University Management School
Online collection of working papers from the Department of Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University Management School.

Rutgers Accounting Web
Research papers from Rutgers Accounting Research Center, part of the State University of New Jersey.
