Student Careers Advisers Network (SCAN)

SCAN consists of a group of volunteers members and provisional members, called Student Careers Advisers, who visit schools, colleges and universities in their local area on behalf of the ICAEW to promote the ACA and a career as a chartered accountant.

What SCAN members are expected to do

SCAN members are asked to attend careers events in their local area to promote the ACA and chartered accountancy as a career. You can be a Student Careers Adviser without having to commit too much of your time. You just need to:

• attend at least one careers event out of those you are invited to per year
• let us know of any events you are invited to by your own careers service contacts so we can support you with literature, promotional materials, etc.
• complete and return a simple event feedback form for each event you attend.

Support for SCAN members

Student Careers Advisers work alongside the Student Recruitment & Promotion team and the District Societies so you'll get all the support you need. Including:

• literature such as schools, AAT-ACA Fast Track and graduate brochures, Training Vacancies, Inside Careers, TARGET City & Finance
• promotional materials such as posters, pens, highlighters and bookmarks
• schools, AAT-ACA Fast Track and Graduate powerpoint presentations
• loan of exhibition stands
• monthly email incorporating the latest events listing, ICAEW news, industry news and recruitment news
• event support such as Frequently Asked Questions & Answers, career fair hints and tips and presentation hints
• annual SCAN members briefing where you can network with fellow SCAN members and catch up on ICAEW news and developments

How to volunteer

It's easy to volunteer as a Student Careers Adviser. Simply complete the data collection form and email the completed the form to nicolette.fletcher@icaew.com
