James Moggeridge, Kingston Smith LLP, Essex
Find out why James Moggeridge from Kingston Smith LLP chose the AAT-ACA Fast Track as his route to becoming a chartered accountant.
The AAT-ACA Fast Track route
I have no regrets about not going to university because the AAT has put me on a par with graduates in work terms by enabling me to start the ACA qualification, studying for the same exams. The ACA will ultimately surpass any degree I could have obtained as I wish to continue working in the accountancy field.
The most interesting experience I have had so far
Getting flown out to Spain with one of the managers from our office on a couple of days notice to do some bespoke assurance work on one of our largest clients (in the field of timeshare hotels).
The work was challenging but very rewarding. We were wined and dined by some of the top management of their Spanish and Portuguese operations. While at first daunting we found some common ground (English football among other things) and built up a good relationship in the week we were out there.
What I’ve liked the most about the AAT – ACA Fast Track route
I’ve liked the variation of people, places and work that I experience on a daily basis. On top of general practice audit and accounts prep, I have had specialist experience of audit for charities, accounts prep for doctors surgeries and accounts prep and audit of solicitors (Solicitors Accounts Rules).
No two working weeks have ever been the same, even when returning to a client for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year!
