Fred Brown, Chief Financial Officer at Aqua Expeditions

The ACA gives you the skills to be able to run your own practice or business.

There are no boundaries

I became an ACA in 1962 and, after reading History of the Conquest of Peru by W.H. Prescott, joined Deloitte Plender Griffiiths in Lima, Peru on a three-year contract as a Senior Accountant.

My experience went from being an Audit Manager to Tax Manager, Human Resource Manager and Administrator. I would get involved in Management Consulting and Marketing. In my accounting experience I also had to deal with accounting for inflation and currency translation in hyper inflationary economies.

All in all a career that has led down many paths and kept him challenged and excited right up to the present day. I just fell into accounting, but would not change it for any other profession.

I now spend my time in the Galapagos Islands managing a bespoke accounting system that allows me to view the general ledger, financial statements, etc for the cruise ship of which I am Chief Financial Officer.
