Aligning with members careers (3 of 3)
‘The financial services industry is one of the most dynamic and significant business sectors in the UK. The new faculty is aimed at those members we have working in this sector and is also open to non-members increasing the relevance of the Institute to a wider audience.’

Focus on tailored services
During the year, we increased our efforts on behalf of practitioners. According to Sharron Gunn, Director, Member Services:
‘It is our responsibility to make our entire membership feel that their Institute really is theirs – no matter what size their organisation, whether in business or practice. In 2006 we continued to roll out our member segmentation strategy with a range of products and services tailored to meet the needs of chartered accountants at every stage in their career. Whether you are calling our member help lines, using our extensive library, taking advantage of one of the many preferential rates we have been able to negotiate for members, the Institute exists to support you.’
Supporting members in practice
In 2006 we undertook a practice benchmarking report, the findings of which were used to inform Institute thinking on the level and types of support offered to members in this sector. We also published a succession planning manual intended to assist members thinking about planning for the future.
A world-class website
Another of the objectives we set ourselves for 2006 was the redesign and launch of our website www.icaew.com. This provides a channel for communicating updates on technical and professional matters; a point of access to disseminate vital member information such as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) support; and an effective means of capturing member views.
Overhauling such an essential channel of communication was a significant undertaking but we launched in the early summer and have seen a marked increase in traffic across the site as more people use www.icaew.com as their first source of information. Encouragingly, WEBlife magazine recently judged our site to be the best amongst UK professional accounting bodies. We are also now able to communicate electronically with more than 100,000 of our members.
