Maintaining our reputation for excellence (1 of 4)

R Madden

‘The new ACA, which will be launched in the summer of 2007, will ensure our qualification remains the benchmark for those wanting a professional finance career. While we are retaining the rigorous content including the case study we are designing the new qualification to be more flexible – allowing students to gain the learning and assessment they need while fitting in better with the needs of employers. Above all, we are committed to ensuring that the ACA remains the qualification for business leaders.’

The Institute strives to maintain its reputation and standing as a world-leading professional body. Much of this credibility comes from our members whose contribution to the broader economy is as significant as it is diverse. It also comes from our thought leadership activity and the calibre of the qualifications we offer.

The new ACA

Widely recognised as the benchmark for finance professionals and the element that binds members together, we know that the value of the qualification is precious. In 2006 a significant amount of preparatory work was undertaken to ensure the new ACA, due to be launched in 2007, remains not just fit for purpose but the leading accountancy qualification.

Thought leadership

The technical work that we undertake addresses a broad spectrum of professional issues from audit quality and financial reporting to corporate governance and taxation. The approach we take is informed by the need to define the issues at stake as well as the policy options available to stakeholders.

Rather than being dogmatic or trying to identify ‘quick fix’ solutions we look to build consensus around controversial issues, signposting possible ways forward. This approach, which involves building sustained campaigns over time, has yielded real results. The corporate governance practices we have advocated are now regarded as best practice across markets. The work we have undertaken on ethics provides the framework used by international standard setters. Our work on financial reporting, corporate governance and audit quality is regarded by government and regulators as integral to the development of effective policy.
