Crawley business members’ breakfast forum reaches new heights
The recent ICAEW South East Crawley business members’ breakfast forum was a little different from the usual roundtable discussion at a local hotel.
Dave Auckland, the forum chairman and Finance Leader at Laing O’Rourke, kindly arranged a visit for the group to the company’s major building project at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
A dozen ICAEW members donned hard hats, boots and protective clothing and were given a tour of the site where Laing O’Rourke are constructing a helipad on top of an existing 14 floor building.
Directly underneath the massive structure (which has to be strong enough to withstand a helicopter crash, if necessary) is the fully functioning premature baby unit.
It was a fascinating insight into a huge infrastructure project. And all but two attendees (those missing from the main photo being somewhat less good with heights ... ) braved the distinct shortage of barriers at the top of the structure and were rewarded with a fantastic view.
Our special thanks go to Dave Auckland and all the Laing O’Rourke team who kindly showed the group round.
