ICAEW South Wales is keen to support this year’s BASE competition for 16/17 year olds, and would encourage members to act as mentors for participating schools in our region.
In the first instance, please contact our Regional Executive, Emma Friedl.
If you are not familiar with it, BASE is ICAEW’s National Business and Accounting competition for school and college students. Teams of competitors engage in business challenges that enable them to develop key employability skills and understand what it’s like to be an ICAEW chartered accountant.
In the opening stage of the competition students will have to complete an online game and prepare a presentation based on their response to the challenge so far. They will present their ideas via video link, as if to a live audience. Mentors are needed to engage with students, use their knowledge and skills to support them, and deliver guidance where necessary, particularly in the crucial opening stage. “It’s a lot of fun, and mentoring is always a good way to make volunteer members think deeply about the challenges being encountered and to learn something, too,” says local ICAEW BASE Champion and SWSCA committee member, Mark Etchells FCA. Please contact Emma to discuss further.
