Rowena takes the reins in Wales and the South West

Rowena Hawkes was appointed our new ICAEW Regional Business Development Manager, Wales and South West this September. Rowena replaces Sam Starbuck, who left the UK last April to carry out a similar role for ICAEW based in Dubai. ICAEW South Wales is delighted to welcome Rowena and we wish her every success in the role.

In her own words, Rowena talks about her background in the accountancy profession and her aspirations to work with members in South Wales.

Rowena:

I have a real passion to support individuals build their careers through professional qualifications, which is why I was eager to take this opportunity to join the ICAEW from Samantha Starbuck. Having worked with one of the big UK accountancy training providers; the equivalent body in New Zealand (NZICA) and then most recently in industry as an ACA training manager, I hope that my years of experience will be of value in supporting the members and students across all sectors in South Wales. I've already had the pleasure of attending your local District Society meeting to gain an insight to the passion amongst our membership in the area and to also appreciate the areas of growth you are working towards. Training provisions in the West Wales seems to be one of many hot topics that I hope I can influence, to ensure our student members have the right level of support to drive exam success, as well as the need to establish suitable training provisions for future students.

Outside of work I'm typically enjoying family life at my home in Somerset with my husband and daughter. I'm a farmer's daughter and having grown up in a very rural setting, I love to spend my spare time outdoors being active! And as the title suggests, I do occasionally still 'take up the reins' in an equine sense as well! Please forgive me for coming from the 'other side of the bridge' and being a Bath rugby supporter but I hope as a proud rugby nation you'll be pleased to hear that the oval ball takes priority in our house!

I am here to support the firms and students across South Wales and the West and I will make every effort to be in contact with many of you as soon as possible. If for the meantime you have anything I can support with, please do get in contact directly on 07901 006 898 or rowena.hawkes@icaew.com.
