Are you up to speed with your CPD?
With the new academic year now underway and the declaration deadline for CPD drawing closer, now’s the time to consider your CPD. Jane Walker looks at some of the courses on offer across the North East.
Whether you need to get to grips with the latest legislation, want to give your tax knowledge a boost or are ready to hone your management skills, there’s a wide range of great CPD sessions taking place across the region this autumn.
With upcoming ICAEW Essentials seminars and a wide range of courses created by NorSCA (and designed to meet the needs of members across the region) taking place in the coming weeks, whatever area you’re in, there’s bound to be a session to help you realise your CPD goals.
Sessions designed with you in mind…
Work with farming clients and need to know the latest issues?
Dealing with charity accounts for the first time and need to get to grips with what’s required?
Want to get up-to-speed with the regularity requirements that matter to your practice?
Whatever it is that you need to cover for your CPD, the chances are that there’s a local course that covers it.
Meeting your clients’ needs
Whether you’re handling charity accounts for the first time, or already involved in charity audits and wish to ensure you understand the latest reporting requirements, there are some great sessions scheduled for 24 October in Newcastle.
If you have farming clients or offer advice to solicitors, the Farmers Update (Penrith, 28 September) and Solicitors’ Accounts Rules Update (Newcastle, 20 November) will help you make sure you’re giving your clients the most relevant advice for their needs.
Keeping on top of the latest updates
November’s Compliant Practitioner course in Newcastle will help ensure that you’re compliant with the latest legislation and regulations. It’s been designed to help you and your team keep compliant, and is ideal for anyone in practice.
Key tax updates
The Financial Reporting Update on 27 November covers the key updates that every tax practitioner needs to know. There’s also a comprehensive tax update session at the same location on that day, and the two courses combined make an invaluable, in-depth day of CPD for those dealing with tax.
And for those dealing with Corporation Tax, there’s an in-depth refresher and planning session on 19 November in Penrith.
The tax topics that count…
On the subject of tax, the annual Practical Tax Conference – a joint event with ICAEW Scotland -– has a packed programme, which sees some of the UK’s most respected tax experts explore a wide range of tax topics. There’s a wide range of sessions on offer, all designed to bring small practitioners and their teams up-to-speed with the latest issues, developments and changes in the world of tax. This year’s event takes place on 4 and 5 October in North Berwick, and day-delegate places can be booked until 26 September.
The Essentials CPD programme was developed by ICAEW Faculties and a host of respected industry experts to give members the knowledge, skills and expertise to thrive both personally and professionally.
This autumn, the emphasis of the North East Essentials sessions is on management skills and keeping abreast of the latest legislation.
On 19 September there are sessions on managing finance teams and effective delegation taking place in Durham. The Essentials team return to the region later in the year with an Audit and Assurance Update and a session on Accounting and Financial Reporting – these courses run in both Durham and Penrith on 18 October and 28 November respectively.
Don’t forget, the CPD declaration deadline is late January, so if you need to make sure you’re on track to realise your goals, now’s the time to take care of the essentials.
