Meet the new IMS Deputy President, Stelios Kornaros
Stelios Kornaros succeeded Paul Richards as IMS Deputy President at this year’s AGM.
Stelios moved to Scotland to complete his post-graduate studies just over a decade ago, and has been based in Edinburgh ever since. On finishing his studies, he spent a year doing research in finance at the University of Edinburgh Business School, before training with PwC Edinburgh. He qualified in 2014 and moved to Infrastructure Managers Limited, where he is currently a Senior Finance Manager.
Stelios joined the IMS Committee in April 2018 and, since day one, has been interested in increasing member engagement, “I think it’s important for as many ICAEW members as possible to be active and help our community grow. I also think that meeting people that are not part of our immediate day-to-day social circle helps our personal development,” he explains.
Moving on up…
Being part of the Committee is something that Stelios has already found hugely rewarding; so much so that he wanted to take things up a level as soon as possible; “stepping up to become Deputy President was something that seemed like a natural next step – it’s something I really enjoy being part of, so just felt right” he says.
A busy year ahead…
Stelios is also part of the group involved in organising this year’s IMS Dinner, which takes place in Edinburgh on Wednesday 25 September. “This year’s dinner will celebrate the lead up to the 100-year anniversary of the first female member joining ICAEW; it’s a fascinating part of the Institute’s history and I think it’s going to make this year’s supper something really special, so I’m excited to be involved in making it happen,” says Stelios.
It’s set to be a busy few months for Stelios, who also hopes to encourage more members to get involved with the Committee, and to help raise the profile of ICAEW Scotland, particularly among smaller businesses.
If you’d like to find out more about the Committee, we’re always happy to welcome members to come along to a Committee meeting in Edinburgh. To arrange this, please contact Fiona Ormiston.
