The theme of this year's congress is Global Challenges | Global Leaders which speaks to the innovative way the accountancy profession turns challenges into opportunities.

In an uncertain political and economic landscape, it is important that the profession convenes to discuss challenges, share knowledge and set goals. By defining the role that accountancy will play in delivering the future, we can help create a world of strong economies together.

Michael Izza, ICAEW chief executive, described the event as offering a "unique opportunity for the world’s accountants to talk about issues of the day, network with each other and learn about new ideas and technologies".

In an article for economia, he wrote: "We will be taking advantage of the presence of more than 160 accountancy bodies in the same place at the same time to strengthen our relationship with the global profession, including Chartered Accountants Worldwide, IFAC and the Global Accounting Alliance. Ideas from WCOA will no doubt shape the future direction of the global profession."

Senior ICAEW staff speaking at this event, include:

  • Michael Izza, our Chief Executive, will be facilitating a discussion on ethical dilemmas in changing times,
  • Duncan Wiggetts will present our latest film, Without Question, and
  • Kirstin Gillon will discuss the effect of new technologies on the future of the profession.
