“I still want to do booze cruises, I just don’t want to dress up as a pirate anymore” It was a comment from one of our newly qualified members that got us thinking about a perceived gap that needed to be filled within ICAEW West of England. The infamous BADCASS fancy dress booze cruises are great fun but what if you feel it’s now time to do something a bit more grown up?
Step forward WECAN – the West of England Chartered Accountants’ Network –aimed specifically at members up to 10 years’ qualified. WECAN aims to provide events covering two key areas, social/networking and personal/professional support. We’re currently planning Christmas drinks, exploring the possibility of a black-tie dinner in 2018 and other social/networking evenings (some with other professional bodies, all helps to make those important contacts!).
There will also be short seminars, in partnership with CABA, held over lunch or after work, offering practical and interactive guidance on coping with issues that might affect your professional and personal life to help you maintain that important work/life balance.
Take a look at our website, see what we’re up to and register for news and details of forthcoming events.

And, yes, there will be booze cruises!
Michael Eavis recently launched WECAN at the Engine Shed near Bristol Temple Meads. We had a great evening, enjoyed festival food and drink while he regaled us with Glastonbury anecdotes and we asked him things we probably shouldn’t have, don’t miss out on the next event.
