The UK Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, presented the 2017 IT Faculty lecture on the subject of privacy regulation.

Elizabeth Denham stressed the importance of accountability, moving from a mind-set of compliance to a mind-set of commitment.

In a wide-ranging speech, the commissioner noted that however fast regulation moves, technology moves faster. She outlined the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be with us in May 2018 and the important role that ICAEW members have to play in spreading the word about the new requirements.
