South West: weaker confidence is holding back investment

Following recent improvements, business confidence is again negative in the South West as it was in Q3 2017. Rising concerns over the availability of skills, and high levels of spare capacity, are among the explanations. As a result, investment is rising only slowly and expected to continue doing so.

Human Capital – The investment decision

Brexit, progress or not?

In January I wrote '2018 will be the year that “nothing happens” subject to a world crisis or natural catastrophe. Whilst progress must be made on a Brexit deal, and some terms may became clear as the year progresses, it seems unlikely that the economic certainty that businesses require will emerge.'

The society serves over 2,800 members in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset (excluding the North Somerset and Mendip areas)

The society’s members come from accountancy practices small and large and from a range of business, public sector and Third Sector interests. The district society is deeply engaged in the development of the local economy and regards the development of the profession, especially among students and young professionals, as a crucial part of its work.

It also acts as a link between the ICAEW in Moorgate Place and members in the district.
