American International Group has appointed Chris Townsend to the newly created role of chief executive officer of international general insurance.
Townsend has held various senior executive positions at AIG in the past.
He will be responsible for “executing its growth strategy and building on the company’s extensive international footprint to support a profitable, client focused organisation,” according to AIG.
He will report to AIG General Insurance CEO Peter Zaffino as a member of the General Insurance Executive Team. Townsend is expected to join the company in Q1 2018.
In September, AIG reorganized into three units - general insurance business, a life and retirement unit and a standalone technology unit. It no longer has a separate commercial and consumer business.
