ICAEW activities in Athens
May 2019, was an exciting month for ICAEW engagement across Greece.
We began May with a reception for our members in Greece and a graduation ceremony celebrating the exam success of 15 ACA graduates and two worldwide award winners from Eurobank and PwC. The ceremony also included the signing of a further agreement between ICAEW and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Greece (SOEL), for the use of ICAEW’s corporate training film, False Assurance, to train over 5000 SOEL auditors across Greece. The agreement was signed by ICAEW Chief Executive Michael Izza and SOEL President Harilaos Alamanos.
ICAEW also joined the Athens Stock Exchange, KPMG, PwC, Sol Crowe as well as leading corporates such as Coca Cola Hellenic, Fourlis and Mytilineos SA to proudly support of the British Hellenic Chamber of Commerce Conference, Corporate Governance and Effective Governance Practices as a Value Driver for Greek companies. Michael Izza presented the key note speech on developments in UK corporate governance. With ongoing reported developments with Folli Follie and other corporates, it was a timely event for the business community and for the profession to play its part in this important dialogue.
Finally, we were delighted to work with BDO, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton, KPMG, PwC and leading universities across Greece, to organise a series of vibrant business challenges and Q&A sessions on a career in chartered accountancy in Greece. We are grateful to all the participating firms and universities for their ongoing support and cooperation in building the next generation of chartered accountants.
